We thought it was interesting in a Michelle Malkin blog post above. Michelle indicates that Phil Falcone himself made some responses to her blog…

Falcone wrote her…

“Do you know that your tax dollar goes to build satellites that the GPS manufacturers use, for free?? Billions….Billions…..Billions…And a few of these companies ARE FOREIGN COMPANIES….that do not pay taxes. I really truly wish someone would spend some time to get the facts straight.???

Speaking of “foreign companies”… Didn’t the FCC issue a “Order and Declaratory Ruling” allow foreign ownership in Skyterra(Lightsquared) to be raised so that Harbigner could acquire a larger percentage of the company in 2008?

***************
“As described at paragraphs 5-6, supra, the Harbinger Funds filed their Petition for
Interim Authority under section 310(b)(4) of the Act to increase their indirect ownership in MSV(Lightsquared) through additional purchases of SkyTerra shares on the open market. The Harbinger Funds followed up by filing their Petition for Permanent Authority under section 310(b)(4) of the Act, seeking substantially the same authority requested in the Petition for Interim Authority, but on a permanent basis. In support of their Petition for Interim Authority, the Harbinger Petitioners state that expedited approval is necessary to allow the Harbinger Funds to take advantage of “near term opportunities to purchase additional shares of SkyTerra(Lightsquared) stock through open market transactions??? to increase their current SkyTerra(Lightsquared) investment. ”

***************

Also, it appears that Mr .Falcone is upset that the Federal Government has spent Billions of dollars providing a highly accurate “satellite based” reference timing system which can be used by the military and commercial manufactures to build devices which use these “satellite based” reference timing signals in a commercial product. While those commercial manufactures are allowed to acquire those signals with payment.

In reality, the Federal Government has provided highly accurate “time and frequency reference signals” to commercial manufactures for nearly 70 years, and long before a “satellite based” system came into existence at a cost that has surly reached Billions of dollars over its lifetime.

It is called shortwave radio stations WWV/WWVH, and I remember building a Heathkit Clock in my youth that used the WWV timing reference to provide the functionality of a “clock that never required to be adjusted”. As it demodulated the WWV reference signals and provided “absolute accuracy”… Minus the propagation delay to New Mexico.

In our opinion, the “historical revisionist” at Lightsquared provide an endless supply “misinformation”.
